Who's teaching
I'm a pianist, composer and arranger from Paraíba, in the Brazilian Northeast, based in São Paulo. I play in the Hamilton de Holanda Trio, and I've released nine albums of my own — among them Interior, recorded live and solo at Theatro Pedro II, and Espirais, with my trio.
What I teach here isn't an academic survey of Brazilian music. It's the way I actually learned it and the way I play it — starting from rhythm, because that's where the language lives.

No. The lessons are taught in Portuguese and every one of them is subtitled in English. The workbooks are in Portuguese — most students read them fine with a translation tool, since the musical content is notation and chord symbols.
You should be able to read chord symbols and play something at the keyboard already. You do not need to read standard notation fluently, and you do not need any Brazilian repertoire — that's what we build.
