SALOMÃO SOARES — INTERIOR (SOLO PIANO)
Press release

"The album that tells my story so far." That is how Salomão Soares describes Interior, his first solo album, released in October 2023 on the Blaxtream label. Recorded live at the Theatro Pedro II in Ribeirão Preto (São Paulo State) and mixed by Thiago Monteiro, the album was launched with a European tour.

He took on the challenge of playing alone with a light touch. "This work is a conversation with my inner self, a search, and also a visit to my whole musical story," says the pianist from Paraíba. "I think that for a pianist, playing solo is the purest and simplest thing there is. It's like going on stage completely naked, with nothing in between. So it will always be challenging and new."

With tributes to the influences that shaped him, the album has seven original compositions and two covers. It opens with Caminho dos Ventos, followed by Caboclinho Armorial, inspired by the writer Ariano Suassuna. Seu Soares e Dona Branca no Forró is a tribute to Salomão's parents, who danced with him in their arms as a small child at village dances in Paraíba. Grandes Sertões: Veredas draws on the novel by Guimarães Rosa. The covers are Fátima, a choro by Hermeto Pascoal, and Desafinado, by Tom Jobim and Newton Mendonça. Canto d'Água, Janelas and Pássaros complete the album.

"Congratulations, Salomão — beautiful, wonderfully played and interpreted, a marvel of an album! What you've done here is exactly what I imagine when I compose!" — Hermeto Pascoal

"With this album, Salomão Soares creates a new way of representing Brazilian rhythms on the piano: a New Brazilian Piano that brings many percussive ideas into sensational grooves, echoing the original rhythms with precision and subtlety." — Léa Freire
