BAIÃO DE DOIS — SALOMÃO SOARES AND GUEGUÉ MEDEIROS Press release Baião de Dois brings together a rare pairing: piano and zabumba, the bass drum that drives forró. Salomão Soares and Guegué Medeiros, both from Paraíba, in Brazil's Northeast, bring to the stage the history and the lived experience of Northeastern Brazilian music. "As musicians from Paraíba, we had the privilege of growing up surrounded by the music of the June festival dances and the celebrations in the countryside of our beloved Northeast. This repertoire, such an important part of our culture, carries warm memories and strengthens our connection to the traditions of the region," says Salomão. The idea is to pay tribute to forró and to bring the culture of Brazil's Northeast to this piano-and-zabumba format, as a homage to the artistic identity that this culture has given the country. "That inspiring environment pushed us to write new arrangements and to explore improvisation," says Guegué. The repertoire includes classics such as Doidinho, Doidinho (Dominguinhos and Anastácia), 13 de Dezembro (Luiz Gonzaga) and Feira de Mangaio (Sivuca), along with music by Edu Lobo, Pinto do Acordeon, Chico Buarque and Egberto Gismonti. The album was recorded in March 2023 at Estúdio Gargolândia (Alambari, São Paulo State), engineered by Thiago Baggio and mixed and mastered by Thiago Monteiro.
